As winter begins to set in, out comes the jumpers and jackets and away goes the linen t-shirts and shorts. While some timeless pieces can be worn all year, the start of a new season is the perfect time to give your winter wardrobe a little refresh.

With help from fashion content-creator Courtney Vincent (@heysavvyau), we’ve provided two ways to style winter knits, layering your wardrobe staples with some new season additions.

1. The Crewneck Sweater – A Layering Essential

A well-crafted sweater in a neutral hue like beige or oatmeal is a timeless wardrobe staple that you can rely on. Try styling your knit over a crisp white shirt – letting the collar and cuffs peek through. Pair with denim jeans for an elevated, everyday outfit. For the office, opt for a tailored pant to complete the look.

2. Add a Pop of Colour with Stylish Cardigans

Colour plays a key role in every wardrobe; it’s an easy way to keep your outfits feeling fresh and interesting. This season, embrace striking knitwear in rich tones and bold colours like emerald-green, deep burgundy, cobalt blue or tangerine red.

3. Finding the Perfect Jeans

Denim is a wardrobe staple and this season it’s all about indigo blue. Whether opting for high-waisted straight-legs, relaxed boyfriend styles in a deep, rich indigo wash adds a touch of sophistication and versatility and will work seamlessly with both casual and dressy outfits. Style with heeled boots and a trench coat for a more refined look.

4. Mix Textures

Combining textures is key to creating depth and interest with your outfit. Play with different fabrics like wool and denim or cashmere and cotton. Don’t shy away from combining different weights too – a lighter knit under a heavier one can look stylish as well as extra adding warmth for those colder days.

5. A Lightweight Trench

No wardrobe is complete without a classic trench coat. A well-cut trench coat instantly elevates any outfit, whether draped over a sweater and jeans for a casual day out or cinched at the waist over a skirt, tights and sling back kitten heels for a more tailored look. Opt for one with timeless details like a belted waist, storm flaps, and a double-breasted silhouette in beige, olive, sage or a highly coveted colour of the season, chocolate brown.
