Fashion runways have reduced this year, and many designer shows are migrating to online-only, so we’ve been slightly starved of our usual sartorial inspiration. However, with warmer weather looming this side of the equator, we can take cues from our northern friends for some of the best shoe trends to take you through the sunny seasons.

Here are six of 2020’s hottest shoe trends, and how to wear them.

Platforms
The 90s are here in a big way with all kinds of platform styles returning to fashion circles; from heavy slides to platform sandals and chunky mules. Add a platform to any outfit to channel retro Spice Girls vibes – and give you that extra lift. Best worn with a cute pair of shorts to show off your pins. Slingbacks
The classic slingback is making a return, particularly in midi-heel sizes. This comfortable style is a little bit party-at-the-front, casual-at-the-back, so it’s perfect for transitioning from work to weekend. Choose a pointy toe and wear them with slim leg trousers or skinny jeans. Or, search for a slingback sandal to lend a polished look when you’re moving from beach to bar. Mary Janes
It’s been a while since we saw this iconic style grace the runway, but according to Vogue, they’re back and better than ever. This sweet style should be paired back with a sleek look to ensure you’re channelling fashionista instead of schoolgirl – think chic mono-colour suiting, or a cropped wide-leg. If you’re feeling bold, try a look straight off the runway: pair with a colourful sock and a cool print-clash dress.

Colour pop
No matter what style, one thing’s for sure: colour is in this season. For guys, it’s time to ditch the boring white sneaker and try something with a little more pop. Even loafers are headed in a more colourful direction. For women, try a barely-there strappy sandal in a bright hue to lift any outfit. Coloured and metallic boots are also making the rounds among fashion circles – choose an ankle boot to take you through all seasons. Williams stocks a range of colourful shoes to shop in centre, or if you're a sneakerhead check out the colourful range at Platypus Shoes.

Loafers
The practical style is topping sartorial wish lists – you can opt for either a simple and comfortable flat, or throw it back to the noughties with a chunky heel. A loafer may seem stuffy, but you can pull it into 2020 with a loose-fit, man-style suit for work. To take it through to the weekend, try it with ankle-grazing skinny jeans, and laid-back oversized shirting for brunch.

Chunky sandals & slides
This season, try something more daring than the usual strappy sandal - look for padded straps, subtle printed styles, and added bling via chain or metallic detail. Wear them with a casual trouser and white tee for a sleek off-duty brunch look, or try a colourful pair and wear them with mom jeans on the weekend. Find your style at Betts.
